Mexico’s National Astronomy Conference

The National Astronomy Conference (CNA) is the unique national meeting for professional astronomers in Mexico. This annual event gathers researchers and students in astrophysics and related topics.

This year the CNA will be held in México City between the 15th. and 18th. of April, 2008 and is organized by two institutions: the Universidad Iberoamericana at Mexico City (UIA), which will host most acitivites, and the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Nucleares (ININ). Located on the East side of Mexico City, both institutions have a history of collaboration among themselves and with other Mexican research centers. Nine representatives from the main Mexican astronomy research centers form the Scientific Organizing Committee (COCCNA) while researchers and students from UIA and ININ integrate the Local Organizing Committee (COLCNA).

The complete program can be found in the main page and includes contributed oral and poster presentations as well as invited talks given by outstanding scientist on topics of interest for the community.

Also, as part of the conference, a day is assigned to student sessions. Those students who wish to participate in this event should register by filling the registration form available at the main webpage. A student committee will select the oral presentations for this session and organize the corresponding program.

The first award to the best thesis in astronomy, astrophysics, cosmology, space science and astronomic instrumentation will be granted during this conference. Rules and eligibility for this award can be found in the main page. Additionally, various activities devoted to promotion and diffusion of astronomy and astrophysics for the general public will also take place during the conference.

Registration for the conference is open from November 1st. 2007 through March 5th. 2008 (use the link in the main webpage or contact the COLCNA to register). The participants' list will be actualized periodically.

Preferential lodging rates will be arranged for participants as well as complimentary transportation (round trips) from both the Conference hotel and the Instituto de Astronomía (UNAM) to the UIA campus.
